PREVENTATIVE CARE

Why You Shouldn't Put Off Elective Surgeries

Everyone is different when it comes to putting off medical care and dealing with pain and injuries. Ansert Foot & Ankle Center, PSC encourages you to never put off treatment of a foot and ankle condition! During the COVID-19 pandemic, many patients opted for virtual medical care instead of in-person appointments to reduce their risk of potential exposure. While this safety precaution is completely understandable, we encourage you to visit our office in person if you cannot put off your pain any longer. We have strict safety measures in place to keep our office and patients safe.

Elective surgeries may not seem time sensitive in nature, but if  left untreated, the conditions may worsen and cause future problems.

Many foot and ankle problems may seem minor at the beginning, but over time, if left untreated, they can build into much bigger and more painful issues. These issues can have an extreme impact on your daily well being and quality of life. Here are some common conditions that need to be treated in a timely manner to prevent further problems:

  • Bunions: If left untreated, bunions can encroach onto the second toe and create a crossover toe, which can lead to a ligament tear.
  • Foot Deformities: Deformities, such as a flat foot, can cause strain on tendons and ligaments or joint arthritis.
  • Hammertoes: These can progress quickly and cause a painful blister, callus or even an ulcer if left untreated. They can also progress to a rigid (or inflexible) deformity, which can only be treated surgically if not addressed early on.
  • Pes Vacus: This is often called a high-arched foot and can cause calluses or foot ulcers because of more pressure on the weightbearing parts of the foot.
